20th Annual Roland D. Pinkham, M.D. Basic Science Lectureship-2006
Epigenetics: One Step Above the Genome
The genome has been sequenced. The next daunting project is deciphering the epigenome, the supervisory layer of regulation that governs whether genes can or cannot be expressed, thereby specifying normal and pathologic states. Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene expression independent of changes in DNA sequence.
